ANNOUNCING PELICAN INFRASONIC SYSTEM ADDRESSING THE HERETOFORE UNEXPLORED 5 - 20Hz BAND AT CONVINCING AMPLITUDES
Specs: 21.5” ultra long throw woofer 5” four layer voice coil Extensive venting, double spider driver weight 115lbs 1000W into a 95dB sensitive driver achieves powerful, well controlled output from 5 - 25Hz
A note from Pat: This idea has been in the back of my head for decades. Finally, Next Gen technology has put the keys in my hands so I commenced prototyping. Predictably, the arrival of a 100lb+ 21.5” woofer drew howls of derision from our group. The old man’s finally lost it. Their mocking didn’t let up until I dialed in a 20Hz low pass filter and fired her up. I’m pretty sure I heard those rarely spoken words: “I was wrong”. There are two distinct subjective effects, one of which I can explain. Venue ambience clears up nicely, and those rare performances with intentional ultra low bass take on full dimension, especially certain rock performances. What I can’t explain is that, even on non-bassy music the soundstage clarifies and focus tightens. Vocals become more ‘flesh and bone’ real. I demonstrate the effect with a recording of a children’s choir in a cathedral. You can’t tell that the Pelican is working but, when your turn it off, you really want it back on. We offer Pelican as a luxurious supplement to our Dual Band Bass system that is already competent to 20Hz, Nightingale. So, yeah, let’s call it Tri Band Bass or perhaps Full Range Plus. I feel that this product underscores our committment to pushing back the frontier of what’s possible. You can’t experience it and not want it. Pelican can be configured front-firing as shown or upward firing concealed as an occasional table. We’ll show that soon.
Note: bottle and glass are for scale. Also note the appropriately named whiskey: Wee Beastie! Be not surprised if you find Wee Beastie in the crate with your Pelican.
